Compare the droppings from different ungulate (hoofed mammal) species.
The size of droppings varies with age, sex and season as well as species, and, in the case of the Fiordland wapiti, with the degree of hybridisation. Other clues, such as footprints, fur and sightings are usually needed to confirm which species produced the droppings.
