Karo seed pod freshly gnawed by ship rat.
Most of the black-coloured seeds have been extracted. Clues pointing to ship rat in this instance were the width of the tooth marks, size of droppings left nearby and five ship rat trap catches in the vicinity recently before. The photograph also shows at top a rat guard hair (outer layer of fur) adhering to the seed case.
