Australian magpie

Three subspecies of magpie have been introduced to New Zealand. The black-backed form is assigned to Gymnorhina tibicen ssp tibicen and seems more prevalent around the Hawke’s Bay. This bird was photographed at Te Mata Park, Hawke's Bay.
