Calling junior Pest Detectives!

Pest Fest detectives 2015

We were delighted to see so many junior pest detectives at our booth at Pest Fest 2015, on Wellington's waterfront, yesterday.

Pest Fest, organised by the Department of Conservation as part of Conservation Week 2015, attracted lots of youngsters and their families, who learnt about plant and animal pests in New Zealand and what can be done to control them.

Children were intrigued to see real examples of the clues pest animals leave in the field, including real 'poos', footprints and fragments of shell and fruit nibbled by rodents, and the chance to examine samples under a microscope.

We handed out plenty of our ‘match the culprits with the clues’ activity sheets so that the pest detection work could continue at home.
